Jinan

Discover sacred mountains and Confucian history in the 'City of Springs'.

Jinan

Shandong Province’s ‘City of Springs’ is rich in natural beauty. Visit during the rainy season (July and August) to fully enjoy the 72 natural springs. At the city centre, Baotu Spring is the most famous. In the 18th century, the Qing Qianlong emperor drank from its waters and declared it the ‘First Spring under Heaven’. Jinan is the gateway to Qufu – ancestral home of Confucius – as well as Thousand Buddha Hill, where the oldest carvings date back 1,300 years. But perhaps most impressive is the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Mount Tai, the most sacred of China’s Five Great Mountains with a history of worship spanning three millennia.
