Escape to the largest coral garden inside the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.
The Whitsunday Islands lie off the coast of Queensland to the south of Cairns. In all, there are 74 islands scattered tightly across this area, each dusted with dazzling white sand and fringed with colourful coral reefs. When it comes to exploring the Great Barrier Reef, the Whitsundays are every bit as good a jumping-off point as Cairns. The action begins on the mainland at Airlie Beach, the gateway to the Whitsundays, and the staging ground for a myriad sailing, snorkelling and diving excursions. There’s also an artificial lagoon set in beautifully landscaped gardens that offers safe swimming year round.
